Road Safety Workshops
- Smart Steps Workshop
Kidsafe WA is funded by SDERA to deliver this free parent and carer community based education program that supports parents and carers to model safe behaviours and make safer decisions in the road environment for young children 0-4 years. It addresses three key areas of passenger safety, pedestrian safety and play safety (relating to the road environment). The workshops focus on the important role parents and carers play in teaching their children safer road user behaviours. It provides valuable information, as well as road safety activities that can be run with children.
Runs from 1 to 2 hours, depending on content.
- NEW Child Car Restraint Laws
To address the concerns and confusion of parents and carers on the changes to the child car restraint laws that occured on 1 October 2010, Kidsafe WA offers these short 1 hour workshops focusing on what the new laws are, and how they will affect you. Workshops identify the various Australian Standards child car restraints available that will enable you to safely transport children under 7 years as well as comply with the new rules. Workshop content is updated regularly to ensure participants are provided with the most up to date information.
Playground Safety & Design Workshops
- Kids Play Naturally Workshop
Our interactive natural play workshops cover ways to create playspaces that support children’s development, learning and wellbeing and provide opportunities for them to explore and connect with nature in a safe environment. Workshops can include strategies to meet outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework
- Playground Safety & Design Workshop
These workshops cover what to look for when checking playgrounds for safety hazards and how to check for compliance with the Australian Standards. Workshops cover topics such as:
**Typical playground injuries;
**Current Australian Standards for playground equipment;
**How to assess playground equipment for compliance
with Standards;
**Hands-on auditing practice using playground safety testing
tools;
**Strategies for improving inspection and maintenance
routines.

General Child Safety Workshops
- 12 Key ways to Keep Kids Safe
Provides a practical overview of child safety and is a good option for groups wanting to focus on more than one child injury prevention topic. The presentation covers topics relating to safety at home, during play and on the road.
It provides practical steps on how to reduce the risk of strangulation, poisoning, falls, burns, child car restraints and driveway safety. Runs for approx 45 minutes.
- Seasonal Child Safety Workshops
These sessions link to the Kidsafe WA Seasonal Child Injury Prevention Campaign topics of:
**Falls (Autumn - March to May);
**Burns & Scalds (Winter - June to August);
**Poisoning (Spring - September to November);
**Holiday Safety (Summer - December to February).
These workshops are available free of charge (during corresponding season) to community groups and can be tailored for the specific target audience including CaLD, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents. Runs for approx 45 minutes.
- Baby Safety Pre-natal Seminars
These sessions provide expectant parents with information on Safety considerations when preparing for your new baby's arrival, selecting suitable nursery equipment and child car restraints. At this stage sessions are conducted at Kidsafe WA once a month for expectant parents attending St John of God Hospital Subiaco and a Kidsafe representative attends exisiting classes at Galliers Private Hospital (Armadale); Glengarry Hospital (Duncraig) and King Edward Memorial Hospital (Healthy Pregnancy Sessions).
Sessions held at Kidsafe WA run for approx 1 & 1/2 hours. If you wish to attend the sessions held at Kidsafe WA but are not attending St John of God Subiaco Contact Us.

- Regional Child Safety Forums
Kidsafe WA, in partnership with Royal Life Saving WA & Farmsafe WA Alliance, conduct regional workshops focusing on child injury prevention at home, on the road, around water, during play and on farms. Over the past 4 years we have travelled the various regional areas throughout WA. These workshops are funded by the WA Department of Health. The workshops runs for approximately 1 hour plus question time. Contact Kidsafe WA to register your interest in us visiting your region.
